Glendale Academy, an International school in Hyderabad

Frequently asked Questions

·         What is the teaching methodology of the school?

Glendale Academy is a CBSE school. Our teaching methodology, however, is eclectic and draws a lot from the theory of Multiple Intelligence and Brain Compatible Learning.

We also have Cambridge International Examination (CIE) accreditation, which is most suitable for students whose parents are globally mobile or those seeking to do Undergraduate courses abroad. This system fosters self-learning and offers a wide choice of subjects to students even at Grade X.

·         What extra and co-curricular activities does the school provide?

Physical education, Music and Craft are part of the core curriculum for all classes. In addition, students can choose any one of the indoor (Arts, Dance, Karate and Yoga) and outdoor activities (Cricket, Tennis, Football, Skating and Athletics) in an academic year.

Every student is encouraged and given an opportunity to participate in the school assembly presentation. Intra & Inter-school competitions in Sports, Academic, and Cultural arenas also form an integral part of the school routine.

·         Does the school provide any kind of value/life education?

In line with the school’s motto “Sow a Character, Reap a Destiny”, our aim is to ensure that our students grow up with strong core values, refined social conditioning and a peace-loving spiritual demeanor.

Towards this, we provide Life Skills and Value Education as a part of the teaching curriculum. Our uniquely designed life skills development studio serves as a finishing school giving the students an opportunity to experiment with sewing, culinary skills, table manners, self-grooming, painting, interiors, ikebana, clay modeling, performing arts and others. They also learn to be active citizens as they learn to do community service, visit old-age homes, host orphans, organize cleanliness drives, use eco-friendly products, and show concern for all living things.

·         How many students are there per class?

The number of students does not exceed 25 for any class, with two teachers per class for the pre-primary classes.

·         What are the methods adopted for assessing the students? How often?

Students from Grade I to V are continuously evaluated as a part of the school routine. Neither the parents nor students are intimated of the assessment schedule in order to avoid stress. There are no unit tests or end-of-term exams for these classes for the same reason.

Class VI upwards, there is a shift in the evaluation to integrate the students into the mainstream assessment methodology. Unit tests, end-of-term evaluations, along with one assignment/project per subject per term are given to help the children become self learners, and provide them an opportunity to score marks beyond tests and exams.

Each class is given a homework schedule at the beginning of the academic year. The homework is designed to reinforce learning and not to start any new topic.

A detailed Report Card is given at the end of every term (thrice a year), providing an aggregate of the child’s performance through each term.

·         When can the parents interact with the teachers?

Parents can meet teachers on ‘Open House’ day when the reports are given, as well as on the 1st and 3rd Saturday of every month between 9 am and 10 am without an appointment, if required.

·         What is the school’s discipline policy?

We seek to inculcate self-discipline rather than impose it. There is no corporal punishment, harsh language and harsh tones. We seek to discipline with dignity.

·         Are the children monitored for speaking in English?

We are an English medium school and all the teachers and students are required to speak in English while on the premises, except in the language classes.

·         Does the school follow/promote any particular religious beliefs?

We are a secular school and the school children celebrate all the major festivals in India. We have non-denominational prayers during the morning assembly.

·         What kind of food is provided to the children?

The school provides a pure vegetarian, well-balanced, and hygienic mid-day meal, with a mix of north Indian/south Indian/Chinese etc. and fresh fruits/salads as a part of the daily menu. The menu is carefully designed in accordance with the overall growth and development of a young mind and body.

All the students are also served warm chocolate flavored milk during the short break with which they have their home snack.

The school’s drinking water tanks are cleaned and tested once a month.

·         What is the security provided for children?

The school has security guards at the gate always. Every visitor is required to sign in the School’s Visitors book at the gate. Visitors are given a Visitor tag which they must carry visibly while on the school premises. The school also has security guards within the building on every floor. Children are not allowed to leave the campus except in their designated transport vehicle after school hours. While on the grounds as well, the children are supervised at all times.

·         How often do students visit the Learning Resource Centre?

The students visit the Learning Resource Centre once a week. However, they can exchange books whenever required.

We at Glendale Academy need the parental support at all times to help us build global citizens with strong nationalist feelings.
